Telling our collective stories through historic preservation
Historic Jefferson Westside in Eugene, OR, is a project of the Jefferson Westside Neighbors Association. In 2022, the executive board launched a task force to "explore the possibility of creating an historic district in the JWN. The HDTF will gather information and coordinate all public processes related to the charge." One outcome of that charge is this website, which serves as a public record of the group's work.
Here are a few tasks project participants have accomplished so far.
We held three training sessions with an historic preservation specialist on Eugene's history, architectural design, and how to update the 1990s and 2000 survey data collected on JWN and neighborhood adjacent houses and buildings.
We converted nearly all the old paper surveys that were scanned PDFs into electronic documents we can edit and revise based on current information.
We've presented at JWN general meetings, written articles for the JWN News and eNews, created an informational pamphlet, sent an initial letter to property owners, distributed a four-page flyer to all JWN residents and businesses, and tabled at the annual summer picnic.
We're developing an interactive map with architectural style, historical importance, year built, and current photo for nearly 1000 addresses in and directly adjacent to the neighborhood.
